Since the Apple iPhone X, the notch on smartphones quickly became a design element adopted by numerous other phone manufacturers.
2018 was clearly the year of the notch, with phone affectionados adding it to their nitpicky list of features they weren’t so keen on. Like their propensity to argue the angle of bezels until their eyes bleed, the notch was argued as quickly as it was added to new phones from LG, Huawei and others. This stress will be assuaged as the notch fades into the hole.
The rumors swirling around the Samsung Galaxy 10 all seem to point to a camera hole on the front of the phone similar to the Infinity-O display in the Samsung A8. The camera hole is unable to house the sensors for any type of facial identification, but small enough to not be as prominent as a notch. These rumors of the hole becoming the next big design element are backed up by the recent launch of the Huawei Honor View 20, carrying the hole-punch front-facing camera design.
That’s not the only phone from Huawei with the hole, as its Nova 4 also went on sale this month. Both phones have a cute little hole punched into the top left corner of the screen, instead of embedded in a notch or “forehead” of the phone. More
