Samsung has confirmed that it will launch the Galaxy Fold Foldable Phone in India on October 1.
The company has sent invites to media for the launch event. It is possible that the Galaxy Fold will go on sale, obviously in limited quantities because it is still a sort of exotic phone with its foldable screen, and a unique design, days after its formal unveiling in India on October 1.
The price of the Galaxy Fold in India expected to somewhere around Rs 1. lakh considering that its global price is $1980.
Talking of global availability, the Galaxy Fold goes on sale in select global markets — the US is one of them — on September 27. As for why so expensive? Because the Galaxy Fold is still a special phone. It is the world’s first phone with foldable screen from a big technology company, available in the regular market. that screen technology is expensive, manufacturing difficult and the whole concept of the Galaxy Fold new, so availability of the phone is going to be limited.
This is second coming for the Galaxy Fold. The phone was announced in February, along with the Galaxy S10. But when it started reaching users earlier in summer there were issues that were noticed with its durability. It was found that the hinges behind back of the phone, that allow for folding and unfolding of the screen were susceptible to very early wear and tear.
The foldable screen too was found to be unreliable with many users — mostly technologists and bloggers who had received demo units from Samsung — taking to social media to show how the screen started malfunctioning within a few days.
the problem wasn’t reported from all Galaxy Fold units but they were serious enough for Samsung to delay the wider launch and go back to the drawing room to sort out the issues. This is first time a company is making a foldable phone on a mass scale and that Samsung is suffering teething problems is understandable.
The company believes that with its tweaked Galaxy Fold now it is putting those days behind it.
“The Galaxy Fold represents the biggest leap forward in smartphone design and engineering since the first smartphones launched more than a decade ago. Engineered with new materials and technologies, it re-imagines everything you can do with a device that fits in your pocket and inspires new mobile experiences. When closed, you can access all of your apps comfortably in one hand on the cover display. When opened, you can explore new ways to multitask, watch videos, play games, and more on an immersive 7.3-inch Infinity Flex Display,” a Samsung spokesperson noted a few days ago.
As far as the hardware is concerned, the Galaxy Fold is not only unique but it is also a top-end device. It has a 7.3-inch Infinity Flex Display — fancy word for AMOLED flexible screen — on the inside and a 4.6-inch AMOLED display outside, when it is folded and closed.
There are six cameras in the device, with a 10-megapixel camera on the front, a set of 10-megapixel and an 8-megapixel dual camera on the inside, and a triple camera setup on the back with a 12-megapixel main camera along with a 16-megapixel wide-angle camera and a 12-megapixel telephoto camera. Inside, there is the Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 chipset powering the phone.
The device has 12GB RAM and 512GB storage. There are also two batteries in the phone, with total capacity of 4380mAh. More
